Gwen Yen Chiu’s biggest influence as an artist is Richard Hunt, Chicago Sculptor (1935-2023), whose studio she worked in as an apprentice since 2016. She was born in Ann Arbor MI and starting at age 5 studied Chinese calligraphy and painting later enrolling in Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in fashion and graduating from the School of the Art Institute Chicago (SAIC) – BFA Sculpture. She creates both calligraphy and sculpture in her Chicago studio..
